What about us?
Our ten kids range in age from 19-3. We homeschool with an eclectic mindset, each kid has his/her unique needs and learning style. This means we don't use any one curriculum, but a combination of methods which causes some chaos but, we've seen God's hand in it and it works for us. We make our home on 5 acres in Central Minnesota USA with our dog Jack (2), two elderly cats Puma (17) and ~pictured above~ Fiona Belle (12) , a pair of parakeets Polly (7) and Delilah (?), two mice Strawberry and Cream that we've had since their birth in March 2013 and a 55 gallon aquarium full of fish. We have a 12 year old 15 passenger van that's on it's last leg with over 300,000 miles and a nice little green 4 door sedan. There are three outbuildings on our property; a shed housing off season clothes, craft supplies and most of our toys; a pole barn for K.'s workshop, extra storage, lawn mowers and snow blowers; a small chicken coop where our 7 hens and a rooster named Hamlet live when they're not in their yard or free ranging. We believe that Jesus is the son of God and that because of His sacrifice, we have freedom from our sins and enjoy relationship with our Heavenly Father.
We also believe:
Kids who get dirty have healthy immune systems (and more fun).
Please pardon our mess: Family under construction (As long as we can ready the house for guests with one or two days of concentrated effort, I won't lose my mind over the clutter. I have learned much in this area over the years!)
God is bigger than any person, politician or circumstance. He loves us and provides what we need.
I stay home to manage the household and train the kids. This was the job I always wanted and I'm glad K. supports my having it.
A motto about College: Educate a woman and you educate a family. (Thanks Poppi for this gift!)
You get what you get and you don't throw a fit. Life is not fair. Some times some people get some things and other times other people get other things. We look for chances to teach this, there's no sense trying to make everything fair for all 10 kids.
We are not perfect, God does not expect perfection from us, when we try to present ourselves perfectly we're marring the work God's done in us and lying about who we really are.
God uses our weaknesses and 'flaws' to His glory. No matter how bad I am on any given day, I am the mom God chose for these kids.
God will hold me accountable for the jobs He's asked me to do, if I'm not listening I may choose a job He didn't give me and end up blocking someone else from their assignment.
We may not have it all together, but together we have it all.
